So a few posts ago I mentioned how I had some exciting news. Well I got a job in Arizona! I accepted an assistant manager position at Walmart. Yes, I said Walmart. I know that there are some Walmart haters out there, but my experiences with Walmart have been nothing but positive. I am so excited to be a part of managing people and improving the store to make each customers shopping experience more enjoyable. I love retail and I love people. I think this job opportunity is going to help me learn and grow so much!

When I told my Dad (big macho business man) that I got the job, he said, “I don’t know if I should offer you congratulations or condolences!” My Dad was just joking and it was funny, but it made me stop and think. It opened my eyes to how some people would look at me and my decision to work at a Walmart store. There are certain stereotypes that we all have about Walmart and mine have drastically changed after I completed my internship this summer. I think some people stick their noses up at shopping or even working at Walmart. Everyone is entitled to think what they want, but I am very excited and grateful for this great job.
I hope as an assistant manager at Walmart I can help to break a few of the stereotypes. I am so thankful to have a full time (awesome paying) job as my husband starts dental school and as we begin our journey here in Arizona. I truly feel blessed to have this life…minus the new dress code which consists of black, navy, and khaki in the form of dresses, blazers, skirts, and slacks. I wanted to share this par of my life with you ladies because it will be affecting my posts. And it poses a new challenge for me to dress stylishly while restricted to a limited color pallet- but, I know it can be done. Plus I will only be working four days a week- so I will still have three days to mix things up and go color crazy!
I am really nervous about starting on Monday. I am the youngest assistant manager by about ten years. This job is a huge leap from the positions that I have had in the past. Thank you everyone for all of your support! Wish me luck.

That’s awesome! My husband works in retail management! Dont worry about what other people think, as long as you love your job that’s all that matters
Congrats on your new job. I think it sounds like an awesome opportunity!
I hope it goes great for you! Where would people shop if there was no one working at the stores? People really ought to stop sterotyping. You like retail and people, so I’m sure this will be a great job for you.
I used to hate Walmart because of low wages and lack of benefits for their workers. In Michigan, I have Meijer. But after being in Utah for the summers, there was nowhere that had everything (groceries, clothes, and household things) in one store and was cheap. I bought colored tees there last summer. I love the slubbed knit from last summer and wish it returned, sadly no, so I just got a lot of white tees and 1 gray on this summer. Also, I love their Bella Bird collection in Utah Walmarts.
